Skatepark Allyship: An Audio Artwork (2023)
A site-based audio artwork (duration approx. 30 mins) designed to be listened to on headphones in or around a skatepark or skatespot.
The narration and instructions for movement are designed for anyone (skater or non-skater) to listen to and perform (or imagine performing) in or around a skatepark or skatespot.
The texts on allyship from the three characters in the piece were developed from anonymised interview material gathered as part of the Girl Skateboarders research project. This project was funded by The Leverhulme Trust and led by Nottingham Trent University, with Skateboard GB and the University of Leeds.
This work invites you to consider how we use skateparks and spots, how we can make them more inclusive, and why this is important.
